About ICAN and ICAN-Republic of Ireland and District
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nigeria's foremost professional accountancy body, established in 1965 with the mission to advance and regulate the accounting profession. ICAN has a distinguished history of fostering excellence in accounting practices, ensuring the highest standards of ethical and technical competence among its members, who work across sectors in Nigeria and internationally.
ICAN has grown to encompass a global community, with over 60,000 members actively contributing to the accounting field in various capacities, including public practice, commerce, industry, academia, and public service.
In line with our commitment to international collaboration and professional development, ICAN has established District Societies in key regions worldwide, including the United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America, Singapore, Malaysia and other locations. These international societies provide a valuable platform for members outside Nigeria to stay connected, participate in continuing professional education, and contribute to the advancement of the global accounting profession.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) actively engages with accounting professionals and reputable bodies across the globe. These partnerships foster mutually beneficial exchanges in expertise, professional development, and thought leadership within the accounting and finance profession.
ICAN is a proud and active member of several global accountancy organisations, including the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa (ABWA). Through these strategic alliances, ICAN remains committed to advancing global standards, promoting ethical excellence, and ensuring that its members are well-positioned to contribute to and benefit from international best practices.

These collaborations not only elevate the professional competence of our members but also create opportunities for cross-border learning, innovation, and global recognition within the accountancy profession.
